Reid Carruthers is a Canadian curler. He skips his own team based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Carruthers has won the 2016 Canada Cup of Curling, 2017 WFG Continental Cup of Curling as part of Team North America, and the 2017 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship. He is currently representing Canada at the 2017 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Lethbridge, Alberta with Joanne Courtney.

KK: What did you and Joanne do to prepare for the Canadian mixed doubles in Saskatoon?

RC: We worked hard at trying to throw the same amount of rotation on draw shots. Unfortunately we couldn’t practice together so a lot of the communication was done over text.

KK: How many events have you played in together?

RC: The nationals was our third event together. The worlds will be our fourth event as a team.

KK: What was the mixed doubles national final like against Homan and Morris?

RC: The final was a very intense game. Both teams played very well and it could of gone either way. Anytime you play a team like Rachel Homan and John Morris you know that you will have to play well.

KK: You’ve both had a successful season on your own teams. How does that make you feel going into the Olympic year next season?

RC: Our focus is still on both of our men’s and women’s play but at the same time, if the Olympic trials don’t work out for our teams, we will be happy to compete in the mixed doubles. It also is another good reason to get myself into sweeping shape knowing there’s a good chance I will be sweeping next season!

KK: What do you plan on doing during the off season?

RC: Off season will consist of a lot of physical training. Continued work with our sports psychologist and some rest and relaxation.

memories in a snapshot

With school winding down, I find myself reflecting on one of the best weeks of my life. While I love school, I miss curling so much. The Scotties was an amazing experience, so I thought I’d share a few pictures inspired by throwback Thursday. Check them out below! All photos are by Andrew Klaver and Sean Kilpatrick.

Ps: here’s a link to a story my best friend Jess Korol wrote for The Projector! Enjoy!
